HBCU Baseball Weekend in Review Week Four – Large School Division

Bethune-Cookman made its first ever Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opening series debuted with a three game sweep this weekend defeating Jackson State. The Wildcats won 4-0 to open the series Friday. Saturday saw a thrilling 9-8 extra inning affair and Sunday, an 8-7 win to sweep the three-game series. The Wildcats improve to 8-11 overall and 3-0 SWAC. This marks Bethune-Cookman’s first-ever SWAC sweep.

North Carolina A&T won two of three games over the weekend hosting Canisius winning game one of the series 8-7 in 13 innings on a walk-off single. The Aggies blasted four home runs to defeat Canisius 16-4 then failed Sunday to sweep the Golden Griffins losing 4-0.

Norfolk State Spartans were victorious in MEAC conference play winning two of its three games over Maryland Eastern Shore 9-7 in the series opener, losing game two 11-3 and winning the series clincher by the score of 6-2.

Mississippi Valley State and Alabama A&M had a three-game series this weekend with each game being decided by one run. Alabama A&M defeated MVSU 6-5 in the Saturday series opener and on Sunday, Mississippi Valley State won both doubleheader games by the exact 8-7 score.
