MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University is thrilled to announce the appointment of Wilberto “Will” Ramos as the new head baseball coach. With a stellar 16-year track record in the sport, Ramos is set to bring a championship-level pedigree and over 250 career wins to South Florida and the SUN Conference.
Jason Horn, Assistant Vice President & Athletic Director, shares his excitement: “Will Ramos is a game-changer, a true leader in the world of college baseball who brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. His selection is a home run for us, and we are eager to see him move our baseball program to the next level.”
Fresh off his role in the prestigious MLB Elite Development Program as an MLB consultant since 2022, Ramos has been instrumental in shaping the future of baseball. In 2023, he served as the mental baseball coach and assistant college place for the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy, expertly guiding families through the pivotal transition from high school to college athletics.
“I want to thank AD Horn, Brentwood Partners (search firm), and the search committee for their time and considering me through the process,” Ramos explained. “Joining Florida Memorial University is a dream come true; a chance to blend my passion with purpose. I am overjoyed to lead the baseball program into a new era of excellence. We’re not just building a team; we’re creating a new legacy. Together, we’ll enjoy the thrill of the game and the glory of championships. I cannot wait to get to Miami and get started!”
Ramos’s tenure as the head baseball coach for Talladega College from 2008–2016 is nothing short of historic. He resurrected the program after a 12-year absence, setting a school record along the way with 39 regular-season wins. His leadership abilities were on full display as he steered the team to consecutive conference tournament championships in 2013 and 2014, culminating in the school’s inaugural NAIA Opening National Tournament appearance. Under his mentorship, 29 players earned all-conference honors, and one achieved the coveted all-American status. His earlier roles at Missouri Southern State University from 2006–2008 laid the groundwork for his illustrious coaching journey.
Beyond the diamond, Ramos’s strategic vision as the Director of Athletics for both Talladega College and the University of the Virgin Islands led to transformative growth and resilience, particularly in the wake of two devastating category-five hurricanes at UVI. His entrepreneurial spirit shined through as the founder of Baseball Plus Academy, where he provided a platform for emerging talent to shine before professional scouts and college coaches from 2015 to 2016.
A proud alumnus of Missouri Southern State University, Ramos holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in history, a master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Irvine, and a suite of professional certifications from Sports Management Worldwide.
