Alcorn State Dismisses Head Baseball Coach Reggie Williams

According to sources, Alcorn State’s Reggie Williams has been terminated as the Braves head baseball coach.  In his three seasons, Williams had an overall record of 16-122 with eight victories being the most wins in any one season (2023). Coach Williams had one year left on his guaranteed four-year contract.

Those sources indicated that the athletic department did not provide adequate support for the baseball program citing for one, that the field was not in the best shape until mid-April after having played 26 straight games away from home.  It is not known if Williams had paid assistants, but it was expressed that he never could hire a pitching coach.

Reggie Williams was building from the ground up after his August 2021 hire, and even with the players he brought in, his teams were still very young with many not over the age of 19.

The Alcorn State athletic department will begin its search for a new baseball coach.

  1. I grew up in Jackson, MS and followed Coach Bob Braddy and the Jackson State Tigers for a long time! I also was the Head Baseball Coach at Mississippi College for 15 years and played Alcorn State (Coach Rat McGowan), Jackson State (Coach Bob Braddy), and Mississippi Valley State (Coach Cleotha Wilson) almost every year so I have a great interest in the SWAC. Do you have any updates on who might be the next Head Baseball Coach at Alcorn State and/or Arkansas Pine Bluff? D1 Baseball will lists several candidates for almost every major College Baseball job that comes open and it would be interesting to see who you might think will be some candidates for these jobs.

  2. Harvey Lee is the guy Alcorn should hire. He is a good coach who has a group of guys who can inject some cash and recruit out of Florida and Texas
