The game between Wiley University and Oakwood University, HBCUAC conference foes, was halted due to inclement weather that threatened to wash out the match. Despite initially securing a 5-run lead, the visitors faced unplayable field conditions caused by severe rain.
Both teams made concerted efforts to complete the originally scheduled three-game series, which included last year’s reigning conference regular season champions. Wiley had already won the first two games with scores of 6-1 and 10-2 before they were postponed. Ultimately, the weather improved briefly, allowing the game to be called, resulting in Wiley’s 5-0 victory over the Ambassadors. This win improved Wiley’s record to 23-13 overall and 17-4 in the HBCUAC.
Keyon Guillory (W, 6-3) started for Wiley, delivering an impressive performance over 5.0 innings with no hits, runs or earned runs, two walks, and eight strikeouts. Wiley scored five runs in the top of the first inning, establishing a 5-0 lead and added two more runs in the second inning, extending their lead to 7-0.
Ryan Ready excelled with three hits in three at-bats, contributing one run scored and two runs batted in. Amir Mason, Jacob Perez, Ivan Del Villar, and Jhan Carlos Javier each secured hits that resulted in runs. However, as rain approached, the game was declared official after the fifth inning, maintaining Guillory’s win and no-hitter record intact.
