Wiley University Head Baseball Coach Kendrick Biggs Collects Coaching Milestone Victory

Wiley University head baseball coach Kendrick Biggs notched his 100th career coaching victory in a 18-4 victory over former Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) rival Jarvis Christian University this past Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

Biggs recently entered his ninth season at the helm of the Wiley University baseball team and 10th year overall with the program. He took over in 2015 after being an assistant coach under Ryan Goodwin.

Kendrick Biggs’ coaching career started at Marshall Junior High School. He also coached the Texas Drillers Travel Ball team along with the Marshall Longhorns and with East Texas Sports. In 2012, he led the Marshall Majors All-Stars to a Texas Dixie High School State Championship and a third-place finish in the World Series. Briggs also served as the president of Marshall Youth Baseball.

Coach Biggs’ first career win came on February 5, 2016 defeating Martin Methodist and achieved his first conference series win on February 27, 2016, sweeping Southwestern Assemblies of God University in a doubleheader. His first conference win came against Huston-Tillotson University on March 5, 2016.

Other coaching milestones for Coach Biggs include defeating a nationally ranked opponent when the Wildcats defeated No. 9 LSU-Shreveport (NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll) on March 22, 2019. Last season, Wiley moved to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) and Biggs won his first GCAC game over Oakwood University on March 16, 2023. He also led Wiley to its first Black College World Series last May at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, AL.

Last year, Biggs finished the season with 21 wins, the most since he became head coach. His team finished third in the GCAC with a 12-6 conference record and Coach Briggs guided the program to its first postseason appearance since 2014 and first postseason victory since 2011.

Coach Briggs stated, “I feel honored to have reached this milestone. I’m also grateful that I was able to accomplish this at my alma mater. The game of baseball can sometimes be really tough to accomplish these things. But I give all glory to God, for putting me in a place where I can touch so many young men’s lives, and give back to the community.”
