Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball: Week Nine

Who’s Hot highlights from Easter Weekend action.

Wiley University 

The Wildcats (17-14, 12-0 GCAC) after sweeping their fourth Gulf Coast Athletic Conference series.

Wiley’s Jaylen Cream (W, 2-1) help his team extend their GCAC conference winning streak to 12 straight games with a four hitter, one run, no earned runs, striking out 10 Oakwood batters in 8.0 innings of work.

 

 

Kenyon Guillory (W, 4-6) won his fourth straight start handing the Wildcats a 13-1 win. In 7.0 innings, allowed only three hits, one earned run, and a game high 11 strikeouts.

 

 

 

Savannah State University 

The Tigers, 20-7 overall and 15-6 in the SIAC after taking two-of-three games from Miles over the weekend.

Kendall Spencer was 7-for-12 at the plate, batted .583 in the series, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 1 home run, and 6 runs batted in. He also had a stolen base.

 

 

 

West Virginia State University 

The Yellow Jackets won three of four games this past weekend over Notre Dame College and Salem University.

In West Virginia State 4-0 win over Notre Dame College. Ayden Hodges (W, 2-3) was lights out in the first game of the afternoon. He tossed a complete game shutout and recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts. He only gave up two hits, both singles.

 

 

Florida A&M University 

HBCU Baseball “Large School” No. 5 Florida A&M Swept three-games from No. 1 Jackson State.

Florida A&M Caleb Granger (W, 4-2) mowed down the SWAC top offensive hitting team pitching a gem limiting Jackson State to two hits, no runs, or earned runs, in his 7.0 innings on the mound of the 9-inning affair striking out 10 batters to record the win in the series opening game in Tallahassee, FL.

 

Grambling State University 

Grambling State Tiger Borom had a big weekend for GSU going 3-for-6 twice during the three-game series (Games 1 and 3). Also including 2 doubles, scored 5 runs, and 7 runs batted in.

 

 

 

Grambling State Cameron Bufford hit his 40th career home run, his fourth of the season in game two of the series 13-3 win over Texas Southern. Bufford is the all-time career leader in home runs for the Tigers.

 

 

Virginia State University 

Virginia State was able to salvage a win after losing the first two games of their weekend three-game series.

VSU Joseph Hastings, in the Trojans 5-1 win over The Apprentice school. In 7.0 innings allowed just 3 hits, 1 run, 1 earned run and 9 strikeouts.

 

 

 

Edward Waters University 

EWU swept Tuskegee with scores of 13-6, 13-1, and 12-3. The Tigers scored 38 runs holding Tuskegee to 10 in the three-game series. Edward Waters, 20-12 overall and 16-6 in SIAC action including a six-game winning streak.

Torry Jones, in game one batted 4-for-4, 1 home run, and 3 runs batted in. Game two, he was 3-for-4, 2 runs batted in. In the series clinching 12-3 win, in four at bats drove in 2 runs. Seven total during the series.

 

 

 

Game Notes: 

Jarvis Christian University Alejandro Gonzalez Moreno (W, 1-0) in 7.0 innings on the hill, gave up three hits, no runs or earned with five Ks defeating Our Lady of The Lakes University 4-0.
