Easter Weekend Had Its Share of HBCU Baseball Upsets

There were national upsets during Easter weekend. The weekend was full of thrillers on baseball diamonds. Teams ranked in NAIA Top 25 Poll and HBCU Baseball Top 10 Polls tasted defeat at the hands of HBCU Baseball program. Here’s a breakdown of Easter Weekend shares of upsets.

HBCU Baseball No. 4 Talladega split its four-game series over NAIA Top 25 No. 10 Faulkner University taking Game 2, 2-0 and game 3, 9-2 for the Tornadoes 6th win this season against top ranked NAIA opponents.

In HBCU Baseball “Large School” No. 5 Florida A&M completes the sweep against No. 2 Jackson State winning 10-1, 8-3, and 11-1. After a slow start to the season, FAMU broke out offensively to upset The Tigers and clinch a big series and SWAC conference win.

Huston-Tillotson defeated Louisiana Christian University who is receiving vote in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll 8-7 in the final game of the three-game series.

The Delaware State Hornets hard fought game a 6-5 win. Won game two 6-2, then rallies from being down 4-0 in the seventh inning to take down HBCU Baseball No. 7 Norfolk State Spartans 9-4 Saturday.

Unranked Southern University Southern sweeps the season series with a 22-12 victory on Sunday afternoon over No. 4 Prairie View A&M University. The Jaguars scored 40 runs during the three-game SWAC set.

HBCU Baseball large school No. 9 Grambling State University upends No. 8 Texas Southern taking two-of-three games.
