Black College Nines continues its season long look at HBCU baseball players and pitchers for a great week of action.
HBCU Large School Division
Prairie View A&M University – In a three-game sweep of Southern University over the weekend.
Position Player – Cody Den Beste (Senior OF) Hit .533 last week (8-for-15) with a double and a triple, two runs scored, 3 RBI and two stolen bases .611 on-base percentage, .733 slugging percentage Had at least one hit in all four games last week. Went 7-for-11 with two runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases in three-game sweep of Southern.
Pitcher – Edgar Sanchez (Senior RHP) Threw a complete-game seven hitter in 3-1 win Sunday over Southern. Allowed only one extra base hit, struck out a season-high tying seven, walked none in winning his third straight decision. Second complete-game win in last four outings.
Florida A&M University – The Rattlers went 2-2 in their mid-week and weekend games, but won the series from Savannah State University.
Position Player – Octavien Moyer (Freshmen SS) Moyer for the week had a .571 on base percentage, scored 3 runs, 1 double, 4 hits drew 7 walks to help FAMU go 2-2 during the week and take the weekend series against Savannah State.
Pitcher – Ryan Anderson (Junior Pitcher) In a 11-1 win over Savannah State 9 innings pitched, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, and a 1.13 earned run average. He set a career high 8.0 innings pitched for a complete game mercy rule victory.
