Two HBCU Baseball Division II Teams Receiving Votes on Eve of Black College World Series

Both Albany State and Savannah State baseball programs are receiving votes in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Associations (NCBWA) NCAA Division II Top 10 South Ragional Poll (Week 10 Edition). Albany State has made multiple appearances this season in the poll, while this is the first for Savannah State as the Tigers are preparing for their No. 1 seeding in the NCAA Division II bracket in the Black College World Series which starts next week. 

Albany State, with a 12-7 overall record, sits as the No. 4 ranked team in Black College Nines HBCU Baseball Top 10 small school poll. For the Golden Rams, this marks the sixth time this season they have received votes in NCBWA NCAA DII Top 10 South Region poll.   

Albany State secured a 6-5 win over Georgia Southwestern State University on April 20 as the team honored the 2021 baseball seniors that included Brock Rountree, Michael Reddick, Chasen Roulhac, Malik Barrington, Gavin Sloan, Jonathan Palmer and Kevin Bryant II to close out the season. 

Savannah State, 13-5 overall, ranked as the No. 3 team in Black College Nines HBCU Baseball Top 10 small school poll. The Tigers are 6-2 at home and 7-2 in away games and are riding a six game winning streak. 

Savannah State will compete in the inaugural Black College World Series HBCU baseball events hosted by the Montgomery Biscuits home of Major League Baseball Double-A affiliate the Tampa Bay Rays. The event will be played at Riverwalk Stadium, 200 Coosa Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36104. The tournament starts April 28 – May 1.
