Southern University will start its quest for a College World Series title in Starkville, Mississippi as they begin NCAA Regional Tournament play this week. The Jaguars earned an automatic bid as the champions of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
The 64-team field was unveiled Monday.
Southern (32-22), HBCU Baseball Black College Nines 2019 large school national champion and SWAC tournament chmp, will open its first NCAA appearance since 2009 in the Starkville regional (home of Mississippi State University).
The Jags will make there second postseason appearance in Starkville as they face regional host Mississippi State (46-13), the nation’s No. 4 seed on Friday, May 31 at 1 p.m. Regional play runs May 31 – June 2.
The Starkville tournament field has four teams, including Mississippi State, Miami, Central Michigan and Southern.

The Jaguars have won 15 SWAC titles and are making their ninth NCAA tournament appearance which includes three NCAA tournament play-in appearances. 2019 marks Southern University’s third HBCU baseball national title.
