Six From HBCUs Receive Accolades in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s 2023 Annual Division II Preview Edition

Collegiate Baseball (the newspaper) has released its NCAA Division II 2023 National/Regional preseason preview and six from HBCUs are being recognized for their play.

HBCU players are being recognized nationally for being impact players on their teams and for their big bats and strong arms on the mound. The preseason honors are given out annually to the student-athletes whose play on the field is expected to stand out amongst the many DII baseball programs across the country.

Collegiate Baseball’s NCAA Division II returning All-Americans, players to watch and newcomers to watch from HBCUs are listed below:

South Region

Returning All-Americans:

Outfielder Joe Smith – Savannah State University

  • Last season stats .441 batting average, 9 home runs, 41 runs batted in

Catcher Jacob Bisharat – Miles College

  • Last season stats .367 batting average, 11 home runs, 4 runs batted in

Players To Watch:

RHP Jose Santiago – Savannah State University

  • Last season stats 9-1, 3.36 earned run average, 86.1 innings pitched

Newcomers To Watch:

RHP Andrew Mann – Savannah State University

 

Southeast Region

Players to Watch:

Outfielder Kobe Miller – Claflin University

  • Last season stats .379 batting average, 23 runs batted in, 18 stolen bases

Newcomers To Watch:

Infielder Jaylen Brown – Claflin University
