Kentucky State Baseball Named Finalist for NCAA DII Award of Excellence

The Kentucky State baseball program received recognition as conference winners for the 2023 NCAA Division II Award of Excellence.

The Award of Excellence acknowledges exemplary engagement with the institution’s community. The NCAA recognized only 22 NCAA DII institutions for their student-led initiative for change in their local communities.

Coach Henry and the 2022 Thorobreds baseball team dedicated their time to the Toyota Bluegrass Miracle League (TBML), a youth and adult program devoted to special needs in Central Kentucky. On September 24th, 2022, the Thorobreds led as volunteer buddies for each player in this YMCA Affiliate program to help with batting, base running, and fielding. This is an annual visit for Coach Henry and his Kentucky State student-athletes.

“It’s humbling to be recognized as a finalist for the 2023 NCAA Division II Award of Excellence.  We’ve been taking part in the Miracle League for the last five years, and it’s one of our most enjoyable annual events.  Our players are blessed to be able to play a kid’s game and we get to share that love with the players in the Miracle League.  Their joy is infectious and this gives us a memorable opportunity to teach our players how to positively impact their communities.” Head Coach Henry said.

The NCAA Division II will announce the winner, runner-up, and third-place honoree for the 2023 Award of Excellence on January 14th, 2023. The Thorobreds have been recognized as a finalist, however, the true reward for these student-athletes is giving back to local communities.
