Savannah State Ranked No. 8 in Latest NCBWA Division II South Regional Poll

The Savannah State Tigers moved up one position in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Regional Top 10 Poll to a No. 8 tie with Lynn University, entering their fourth week of action in the top 10 in the nation.

Savannah State (18-6) will be back in action Saturday and Sunday March 26-27 after last week’s three game sweep against Morehouse. The Tigers will face SIAC opponent Lane College on the road, then a home three-game series with Miles College on April 1-2 and then a nonconference game against Voorhees College April 6.

Joseph Smith leads the squad in batting average this season, hitting an impressive .429. Smith has thirty-three hits in 77 at bats. He has scored 26 times and tallied 15 runs batted in. Champion Robbins, has also been a force at the plate with a .392 batting average and 16 RBIs. Andrai Wright has the most RBI on the team with 23, and a batting average of .340. As a team, Savannah State is hitting .335.

On the mound, Jared Showalter is 4-0 with 25 strikeouts and Jose Santiago is 5-0 with a 2.54 earned run average and 43 strike outs.
