Preseason Overview:

Last year was Oakwood’s first time playing collegiate baseball getting their feet wet to competition. After a rough first year, the recruiting focus was on plugging the majors holes they had in the roster. Improvements in recruiting will yielded Dividends for the coming 2024 season.

Top Freshmen Dawryn Coronado and Dakota Cobb, both pitchers, will see action when the season starts.

Top impact players include newcomers joining Oakwood from the JUCO level in catcher Mateo Hamm, outfielder Chris Aguilar, along with sophomore shortstop Jeremy Matos and talented pitcher Jorge Hernandez.

Players most likely to attract scouts attention include Mateo Hamm who hits for power and has quickly established himself as the starting catcher anchoring the pitching staff.  He can play exceptionally well at any position he is placed. Matos was one of the teams returning top hitters last year, has an exceptional arm, speed, high baseball IQ, and made a number of jaw dropping plays.  “About a natural talent as I’ve ever seen” according to head coach Richard Hodnett in his second season for the Ambassadors program. “I’m pretty happy with our recruiting class, but we have a ways to go as we grow our program.”
