After a brief rain delay the Prairie View A&M baseball team welcomed Wiley College to Tankersley Field on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Wildcats, 14-3.
How it Happened:
- The Panthers drew blood in the bottom of the third taking a 1-0 lead. Jayden Williams singled on a bunt and Tre Turner singled to second base placing runners in scoring position. Benjamin Ybarra grounded out to the shortstop to score Williams.
- Wiley responded in the top of the fourth with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. In the bottom half of their inning the Panthers offense picked up where it left off, as Dominic Cox opened the inning with a free base. Mason Heiskell lined a single to center, placing runners on each corner. Blake Redman was also walked loading the bases for Williams who was also walked scoring Cox tie knot the game at 2-2. With one out Turner doubled to the shortstop to score both runners and increasing the tally to 4-2.
- The inning continued when a pitching change was made and Ybarra hit in Williams on a sacrifice fly. Alex Martinez singled to left field, before Brayden Johnson singled a line drive down third base line to score Turner. Cox singled to right center to score Martinez for the final run of the inning to advance the score to 8-2.
- In the top of the fifth Wiley struck again for one run to make the score 8-3. The bottom of the eighth inning saw more runs scatter across the plate for the Panthers when some offenses changes were made for PVAMU. Martinez doubled to left field to bring two in. Another pitching change along with some more offensive changes brought in four more runs to bring the final score to 14-3.
- Samuel Denker earned his second win of the season, striking four batters and allowing six hits and three earned runs.
