Coppin State Sebastien Sarabia Named MEAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week; Marcos Herrand Selected Rookie of the Week

Coppin State’s Sebastien Sarabia has been named the MEAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week while Marcos Herrand earned Rookie of the Week honors, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.  Sarabia and Herrand are the fourth different Eagles players to receive the Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week award.

A sophomore from Simi Valley, Calif., Sarabia batted .462 (6-for-13) in a four-game split at Norfolk State, driving in a combined six runs and scoring twice.  Sarabia hit safely in each game of the series, including back-to-back two-hit games on Saturday and Sunday.  Sarabia drove in three runs on Friday and two more on Sunday and drew four walks for a .588 on-base percentage.

For the season, Sarabia is hitting a team-high .333 with three doubles, two triples and 15 RBI.

A freshman pitcher from Brandon, Fla., Herrand tossed three scoreless innings of relief on Sunday to pick up his first career win at Norfolk State.  Herrand struck out a pair of Spartans and did not allow a hit while facing the minimum.

Herrand has accumulated a 4.26 ERA in his five appearances on the mound this season.  Striking out ten batters in 12.2 innings, Herrand is 1-0 while holding batters to a .222 average.
