Jackson State emphatically closed out its three-game sweep of Alcorn State with a 30-6 win Sunday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
JSU improved to 10-5 overall and 6-0 in SWAC play, while Alcorn falls to 3-4 and 3-3 in conference play.
The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning, added three runs in the second inning, scored three runs in the third inning, produced four runs in the fourth inning, didn’t score in the fifth inning, added three runs in the sixth inning and scored 14 runs in the seventh inning and the game was called due to the mercy rule.
Devontae Rhodes went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with seven RBI and scored three runs.
Chandler Dillard batted 3-for-4 with five RBI and drew three walks and Chenar Brown finished 5-for-6 with five RBI and scored four runs.
CJ Newsome finished 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI and Chevy Dorris went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Jatavious Melton, Equon Smith, Tyler Jones, Wesley Reyes, Ty Hill, and Marshall Luiz each added an RBI.
Newsome added two steals, while Smith, Rhodes, and Melton each swiped a base.
Smith had the unlikely distinction of being hit by the pitch three times.
Nikelle Galatas tossed a complete seven innings and scattered eight hits, allowed six runs (five earned) and three walks and struck out five batters.
