The Big Blue Sweep Virginia State In Weekend Series

Bluefield State took the lead late and defeated Virginia State University 5-4 on Sunday, March 14. The game was tied at four with the Big Blue batting in the top of the seventh when Kevon Moxey singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

In the first inning, Bluefield State got their offense started. The Big Blue scored one run when Tanner Brandon singled.

In the top of the fifth inning, The Big Blue tied things up at four. Moxey’s sacrifice fly scored one run for Bluefield State.

Cam Hodge started the game for Bluefield State College. Hodge allowed two hits and four runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two

Daniel Rayfield was the winning pitcher for the Big Blue. The righthander lasted two innings, allowing two hits and zero runs. Jonathan Oster threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Brandon went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Bluefield State College in hits.

The Trojans scored three runs in the fourth inning, but the Big Blue still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for the Trojans came thanks to an error on a ball put in play by Chase Moore and Aaron Harris and a walk by Christian Henderson.

Emmett Jefferson was on the mound for the Trojans. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out three.

Jefferson led the Trojans with two hits in four at-bats.

Game 2

Bluefield State snatched the lead late in the game in a 2-1 victory over Virginia State University in game two Sunday evening. The game was tied at one with the Big Blue batting in the top of the seventh when Austin Stambaugh singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Nick Workman struck out five, while Nicholas Woolfolk sat down two.

In the second inning, Bluefield State got their offense started. Roman Moore grounded out, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Trojans tied things up at one when Emmett Jefferson grounded out, scoring one run.

Workman pitched the Big Blue to victory. The right-hander went seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out five.

Woolfolk toed the rubber for the Trojans. Undefined surrendered two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out two.

Bluefield State was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Taylor Tibbs made the most plays with eight.

Joshua Tayman led the Trojans with two hits in three at-bats. Virginia State was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Tayman had the most chances in the field with six.
