HBCU Baseball Weekend in Review Week Three – Large School Division

North Carolina A&T weekend baseball action swept a three-game series over the Holy Cross to improve to 6-6 on the young season. The Aggies completed Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep winning game one 4-2, then a 9-4 victory in game two. The 6-3 series finale win Sunday was the fourth win in their last five games.

The Mississippi Valley State University baseball program pounded 36 hits to out-slug the University of Arkansas Pins Bluff Golden Lions over the weekend three-game series. Mississippi Valley took the opening series in a pitching duel 2-1, Game two a was an 8-8 tie in the record books before a 16-9 series sweep.

Alabama State scored 40 runs in their three-game sweep of St. Bonaventure over the weekend. The Hornets banged out 41 hits for double-digit runs in all three games. ASU won the first game 11-1, a 16-7 triumph in game two, then the series finale a 13-3 win. St. Bonaventure mustered only 11 runs throughout the entire series against Hornet pitching.

The Delaware State baseball team late inning rally in Saturday’s game for a come from behind 8-5 over Lehigh University. Down 4-0, the Hornets four runs in both seventh and eighth innings to secure the comeback win. Delaware State won the series opening game, 1-0.

Norfolk State defeated two out of three games over the New Jersey Institute of Technology by the scores of 4-3 and 8-6, before losing 10-4 in their hopes of a three-game series sweep.

Bethune-Cookman over the weekend defeated three different teams on the road winning all four games. The Wildcats achieved a 4-3-win Friday against Jacksonville University. Saturday saw Bethune earn a 5-4 win in game one of the scheduled doubleheaders over Sacred Heart University, and a shutout 4-0 victory over Stetson University in the second game. BCU swept Sacred Hearts Sunday afternoon 7-6 for a four-game winning streak.
