Xavier University of Louisiana swept a Saturday doubleheader from Voorhees College to win a four-game baseball series. The live bats of the Gold Rush produced an 18-10 first-game victory, then won 6-1 in the second game Saturday. Xavier lost the series opener 14-4 as the Tigers of Voorhees upset top ranked Xavier before the Gold Rush took the nightcap 7-3 this past Friday.
An offensive display and good pitching enabled the Lincoln University(PA) baseball team to extend its winning to four games as the Lions opened its East Coast Conference three-game series against the College of Staten Island with a 15-6 victory Friday at the LU Baseball Field.
In West Virginia State’s second doubleheader of the weekend at Glenville State on Sunday, THe Yellow Jackets won both games to complete the weekend sweep. In the first game, West Virginia State won 5-4, before claiming the second game 6-2. WVSU completed Saturday’s first doubleheader sweep winning 7-4 and 4-3 against the Pioneers.
Talladega College secured a three-game sweep of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference foe Tougaloo College winning the opening series twin bill Friday 6-0 and 8-2, then completed the sweep in the series final game 11-5. Talladega is fighting for an Association of Independent Institutions conference tournament seed with five of its remaining eleven games against NAIA Top 25 ranked teams.
