HBCU Baseball Weekend In Review – Small School Division

HBCU baseball diamond warriors literally hit the ground running this past weekend and this is what happened.

No. 1 Xavier University of Louisiana (HBCU Baseball Small School Poll) defeats No. 2 Mississippi University for Women (USCAA Coaches Poll) to win their series of ranked teams two games to one. XULA won the series opener 15-0, then split a doubleheader with a 5-4 game-one loss before claiming a 5-1 win in the series finale.

No. 2 ranked West Virginia State Baseball returned to the win column Sunday, picking up a pair of victories over Mountain East Conference (MEC) divisional foe, Concord, each by scores of 3-2.

No. 10 Rust College was victorious over the weekend in three games with Tougaloo taking the series two games to one. In the opening game, the Bearcats live bats produced a 12-3 win. Tougaloo Bulldogs battled back defeating Rust 4-2 in the series second game and clutch hitting propelled Rust to a 12-4 series clinching win.

No. 9 Florida Memorial looked strong in its 6-3 series opening win against Warner University.

Tougaloo put together clutch hits, good defense and solid pitching to help upset No. 10 Rust Bulldogs by the score of 4-2 on Saturday.
