It took a bit longer than it would’ve liked but Florida Memorial University saw its bats come alive in the later innings – getting a 6-run seventh inning – to cruise into a 10-1 win over visiting Florida National University Wednesday afternoon at Harry T. Moore Field.
How It Happened
- After going down 1-0 in the fourth inning and remaining scoreless through the top of the sixth, FMU got on the board with a single run in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Lions tied the game on a Florida National breakdown – scoring a run as Nathan Harris trotted to home plate on a wild pitch.
- Florida Memorial reliever Ramon Garcia came in to pitch at the top of seventh and held the Conquistadors scoreless.
- Rohandry Javier got a rally going for FMU as the leadoff for the bottom seventh, taking a pitch in the side to get on base then stole second on during the ensuing at bat.
- Ulises Rodriguez and Axel Gomez followed Javier with consecutive singles, with Gomez’s hit bringing in Javier and Rodriguez to put Florida Memorial up 3-1.
- Luis Velandia put the Lions ahead 4-1 with a single to short center and Yunior Sanchez drew a bases loaded-walk to make it 5-1.
