Savannah State Continues Its No. 8 Ranking in Latest NCBWA Division II South Regional Poll

Fresh off its sweep of Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foe Lane College this past weekend, Savannah State continues to receive votes in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South region poll released Wednesday, March 30.

The Tigers have rolled to its fifth consecutive SIAC series sweep which started with a sweep over LeMoyne-Owen College back on February 25-26. Savannah State is on a six-game winning streak and has won 17 of its last 20 ball games dating back to February 19th against Kentucky State.

Savannah State leads the NCAA Division II in several statistical categories last updated March 30 through games March 29:

No. 1 Triples – 19 tied with Florida Tech

No. 3 on-base percentage – .463

No. 5 stolen bases – 84

No. 6 Batting Average – .347

No. 6 stolen bases per game – 3.11

No. 15 scoring – 261 runs and 9.7 runs per game

No. 20 runs – 261

The Tigers, 21-6 overall and 17-1 in conference, lead the SIAC standings. Starting pitching and Savannah State’s bullpen has led to huge conference wins. The Tigers’ top arms, Jose Santiago is 6-0 on the season with a 2.81 earned run average; Jared Showalter is also 6-0 with a 2.37 ERA; and Enrico Peele is 7-1 with a 3.86 ERA.

This marks the seventh week in a row that the Savannah State baseball team has received votes in the NCBWA Division II South Region Poll.
