Reginald Johnson has been the driving force for the Edward Waters University baseball program since his November 2011 hire. Now in his 12th season as the Tigers head coach, Johnson reached a coaching milestone with his 300th career victory when EWU defeated Voorhees University 8-4 this past Tuesday, April 11th.
He’s compiled a 300-275 record at Edward Waters with a 2022 HBCU Baseball national title under his belt. Johnson collected his 200th career coaching victory during the 2018 season while he was leading EWU as a HBCU baseball powerhouse knocking off top ranked NAIA baseball programs under his tenure.
Under Johnson, EWU has transitioned the Tigers into the NCAA Division II ranks playing in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) where his team has faired well against SIAC opponents.
Coach Johnson played high school baseball at First Coast High School in Jacksonville, Florida where he was born and raised. He received a dual bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Sports Management from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2007 while he was a four-year collegiate baseball player on the diamond.
Coach Johnson recruits athletic scholars into the program where they achieve high academic awards as well as being involved in community service projects. “I’m just thankful to be able to do what I love on a daily basis. Their buy-in to my vision and our execution on the recruiting trail, practice field in in games deserves the credit as well.
