Black College World Series Home Run Derby

With the 2021 Black College World Series coming up on April 28 – May 1, the event presented by the Montgomery Biscuits at the Riverwalk Stadium, BCSG360, and Black College Nines are excited to announce the participants for the Home Run Derby, presented by Gold Coast Logistics. 

The Gold Coast Logistics Home Run Derby will begin at 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 29, with gates opening at 8:00 am. A ticket to the Black College World Series includes admission to the Gold Coast Logistics Home Run Derby. The eight Gold Coast Logistics Home Run Derby participants are listed below and are subject to change. 

THE PARTICIPANTS:

NCAA Division II

NAIA 

  • Danny Coleman – (Xavier University of Louisiana)

  • Nathan Harris – (Florida Memorial University)
  • Joseph Eischen – (Edward Waters College)

The Gold Coast Logistics Home Run Derby will consist of two rounds with the eight players above competing for the crown. The derby will feature Historically Black College and University (HBCU) baseball programs pitting the NCAA Division II versus the NAIA players dueling in a home run challenge four on each side.

In Round One, the eight players will each have three minutes and 30 seconds to hit as many home runs as they can. The NCAA Division II and NAIA player with the top 1st-round home run total during the 1st-round will advance to Round Two. A wild card player will also move to Round Two and will be the player with the next-highest home run total from either division.

With their home run totals from Round One carrying into Round Two, the three finalists will then each receive another three minutes and 30 seconds in Round Two to hit as many home runs as they can. The player with the most home runs combined through the two rounds will be crown the Gold Coast Logistics Home Run Derby Champion.

The theme of the home run derby is In honor of the many baseball players that came from Historically Black College and Universities who played in either of the Negro Leagues and Major League Baseball.
