Rust College head baseball coach Aurby Burdine has resigned from the position effective immediately.
Burdine was a former baseball player for Rust 2011-2014, served as an student assistant for the bearcats in 2015 and signed a contract in 2016 to become the head coach. After three-season, he has decided to step down effective at the end of this season which just concluded.
The Bearcats finished the 2018 season 5-26 under Burdine who lost a number of players to injuries. Burdine made the decision to resign his duties as head coach and pursue other opportunities.
Black College Nines reached out to the Rust College Athletic Department after hearing rumblings of the departure, but no information of the resignation was available. It is not known if or how Rust will extend its coaching search.
Burdine gave a special thanks “to everybody who has helped and supported us the last few seasons. With the team in place now, if they come back healthy and with a few helpful recruits, they will win a lot of games.”
