Though the season is ending prematurely, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) voted one last time for its March 17, 2020 NCAA Division I Top 30 poll. Alabama State, after the fifth and final week of the season due to COVID-19, received votes for the fifth straight week to finish the season.
The Hornets completed the season undefeated in SWAC conference play and gained national attention with Jacknell Guzman, ace of the staff, leading the NCAA Division I in complete games with three in four games started. Offensively, the team finished ranked 6th in the nation in walks with 105, 10th in triples with nine, 17th in triples per game and 28th in win-loss percentage at .778. Jabronski Williams led the nation tied in triples with four and is third in triples per game.
The 2020 poll voters come from among 35 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. After a preseason Top 35 listing, the remainder of the polls featured a national Top 30, beginning with the Feb. 17 NCBWA DI survey.
