Alabama State’s Ian Matos Signs Undrafted Free Agent Contract

Alabama State University’s Ian Matos signed an undrafted free agent contract with the West Virginia Black Bears, it was announced following the conclusion of the 2023 Major League Draft.

Matos is the third Hornet from the 2023 team that will continue with a Major League Draft organization. Alabama State had two players – Corey King and Trenton Jamison also sign undrafted free agent deals.

The Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, native earned second-team Black College Nines HBCU Baseball Elite honors in 2023 after hitting .355 with 20 doubles, 3 triples, 9 home runs, 47 runs batted in during the regular season.

During his three years at Alabama State, Matos hit .327, starting 112 games played in 115. He tallied 26 doubles, 4 triples, 15 home runs and 81 runs batted in.

The Hornets finished the 2023 season with a 41-18 overall record… most in program history.
