Both large and small HBCU baseball programs continued a weekend full of action on the diamond. Black College Nines (BCN) notes some of the action from this past weekend.
The Lions swept crosstown foe Florida National University in its three-game weekend series. FMU won the series by the score of 10-3 in game 1, 5-3 in game 2, and the series finale of 14-7, to improve to 7-4 overall as they head into conference play in the Sun Conference.
Miles College
Miles swept a three-game series against Morehouse this weekend. The Golden Bears stole 26 bases in the series. Jordan Pearson went station-to-station swiping 11 bases including two steals of home. Trey Rutledge was one of the hitting stars, with two home runs and seven runs batted in. Miles won game 1, 15-13, game 2, 3-2, and the series finale 7-2.
Jackson State University
Jackson State finished off its series sweep against conference foe Alcorn State and moved to 9-3 this season. The Tigers began the weekend with a 4-3 victory on Friday, followed with a 12-9 win on Saturday and a 6-2 finale sweep on Sunday.
Alabama State
The Hornets completed a series sweep of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. ASU struck out 21 batters against 11 walks over the three-game series.
