Xavier University of Louisiana searched far for its next leader of the baseball program. David Yamane is set to be named head coach by Director of Athletics, Pat Kendrick.
Yamane has spent the last two-plus seasons as the associate head coach at Los Angeles Harbor College (LAHC) in Los Angeles, California.
While at LAHC, Yamane orchestrated and facilitated academic and mental performance, fostering growth and motivation within the team and establishing training programs for outfielders and infielders to elevate development. Yamane also established a team study hall program to enhance academic performance and mental well-being that paid off during the 2022 – 2023 school year by achieving a team GPA of 3.1 while earning the national ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award.
Besides collegiate baseball, Yamane has remained a mental performance coach in sports psychology for the last 20 years. His work develops a competitive mindset, self-motivation, and both short and long term goal-setting.
Yamane previously was an assistant baseball coach at West Los Angeles College from 2019 – 2021 in Culver City, CA., and at NCAA Division I Siena College in Loudonville, NY. While at Siena, Yamane helped produce three Major League Baseball (MLB) draft picks with one reaching the Major Leagues.
Yamane earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington in Speech Communication and Rhetoric, and his master’s degree in 2006 from California State University in Kinesiology and Exercise Science with a focus in Sport Psychology.
