Xavier University of Louisiana head baseball coach Dave Yamane was fired for violating the standards, duties, and responsibilities expected of Xavier University employees, the school announced to its current fall ball roster.
The Xavier athletic department has not provided further details due to an ongoing decision made by the human resources department.
The dismissal comes after being on the job for three months, following suspicious racial slurs made to players and his interaction with his coaching staff under his watch according to reliable sources.
The firing centered around multiple complaints about the use of the N-word during fall practice. The school was first alerted to the alleged insults at the start of baseball fall practice and scrimmages.
The administration took swift action committed to student-athletes’ well-being and the integrity of competition.
XULA Vice President Curtis Wright and Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation, Pat Kendrick, announced the hire of Dave Yamane as baseball’s head coach on Aug. 1, 2024.
Yamane came to Xavier with more than 22 years of college experience as a coach and director of operations, including associate head coach at two-year Los Angeles Harbor College in Wilmington, Calif., NCAA Division I experience: three years (2016-19) as assistant coach at Siena College and five years (2010-15) as director of operations at Long Beach State.
Yamane replaced former head coach Adrian Holloway who was hired in 2021 to relaunch XULA’s baseball program that had been dormant from 1961 to 2020. On May 5, 2024, Xavier baseball announced that baseball head coach Adrian Holloway would not return next season.
