Xavier University of Louisiana extended its baseball win streak to nine games and improved to 13-3 overall Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep against Tougaloo.
XULA won 12-2 in five innings in the first game and 13-8 in the second.
XULA opened the doubleheader with a six-run first inning, then scored seven runs in the fourth inning of the second game. Those are XULA’s two highest-scoring innings this season, its first since 1960.
Shortstop Antonio Rodriguez reached base safely six times in the doubleheader and scored four times. Left fielder Courtland Posey had five RBIs, four in the second game. In the opener third baseman Jose Fulgencio was 3-for-3, scored twice and drove in three runs.
XULA pitchers have yet to allow a home run this season; that streak covers 111 innings.
Among Louisiana’s 18 four-year college baseball programs, XULA has the third-highest winning percentage and third longest win streak this season.
