Xavier Is 11-3 After Sweeping Rust

Xavier University of Louisiana baseball completed a three-game sweep of Rust by winning 2-1 and 4-0 in a Saturday doubleheader at Wesley Barrow Stadium.

XULA, 11-3 in its first varsity season since 1960, extended its winning streak to seven games.

In the opener, Blair Frederick doubled home Danny Coleman and Jose Fulgencio in the fourth inning to put XULA ahead to stay. Frederick was the winning pitcher Friday in a 9-1 decision.

XULA scored all its second-game runs in the third inning. Coleman hit a two-run single, and Fulgencio singled home another run. Pitchers Juwan FitchRyan KinneyJonathan Allen and Jamal Allen combined on the shutout, allowing two hits and walking eight.

XULA outscored opponents 25-2 in the last four games, including a pair of shutouts.

Rust is 10-12 with a five-game losing streak.
