Who’s Hot In HBCU Small School Baseball Week Two

 

 

Black College Nines (BCN) continues its coverage of Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball. With Baseball in full throttle for the small school HBCU baseball programs. BCN will continue coverage throughout the entire season of who’s hot, drawing attention to the student athlete’s individual play as well as his efforts to help his team win.

Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball:

Morehouse College – Peachtree City Classic

The Maroon Tigers are off to a good start this season at 4-3. Sophomore pitcher Grant Bennett pitched a gem for Morehouse in a huge 7-3 win over Fairmont State University in the Peachtree City Classic in Atlanta, Georgia. Bennett went 5.1 innings pitched, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 0 earned, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. He’s 2-0 on the season.

 


Harris Stowe State University – Two Game Sweep of Lane College

Harris-Stowe moved to 5-1 for the year with two wins at Lane College over the weekend taking game one 7-5, and 18-3 in game two. In game two, the Hornet’s Chase Goldwater went 3-4 with 2 homeruns and 6 RBI. Currently, Goldwater ranks 1st in the country in homeruns/game (0.667).

 

 


Texas College – Defeat No.9 Bellevue

Freshman Jonta Brown got his first collegiate win as the Texas College Steers defeated NAIA No. 9 Bellevue (Nebraska), 4-3, on Friday. Brown took over for starter Michael Taylor, hurled three innings, allowed three hits allowing one earned run with a strikeout and no walks.

 


Florida Memorial University – FMU Sweep Thomas

Florida Memorial University baseball team completed the sweep on Thomas University. Winning game opener of the three-game series Friday 3-0, before Saturday’s 6-5 and 6-4 wins. The Lions improved to 6-3 on the season and 3-0 in the Sun Conference.
