Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball: Week Ten

Who’s Hot spotlights some of those from HBCU baseball who had notable weekend games and conference series.

West Virginia State University 

The Yellow Jackets split their series with West Virginia Wesleyan losing game one 13-9, then coming back to win game two 14-0.

Chris Morris (W, 5-1) earned his fifth win of the season. He struck out nine Bobcats and only gave up three hits.

 

 

 

Alabama A&M University 

Alabama A&M baseball took two of three games from Mississippi Valley State over the weekend winning game one 14-4, losing game two 14-8, and winning the series’ final game 15-5.

Utility player Tristan Curless batted .538 during the weekend (7-for-13) and recorded seven runs batted in during the series.

 

 

 

Talladega College

The Tornadoes clinched the three-game series defeating Wiley University by the score of 9-5 after both teams split a doubleheader yesterday.

Samuel Guadamuz had another commanding performance on the hill in 5.0 innings, allowing 3 runs and 7 strikeouts to improve HBCU baseball’s leading seven wins for the season.

 

 

 

Wiley University

In the key game that carried implication to decide the top teams in the GCAC which was the opening game of the three-game series against Talladega, the Wiley Wildcats, who trailed throughout much of the game tied knotted the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh inning.

Utility Kai Woodard broke a 5-5 tie with a grand slam to seal Wiley’s 10-7 come from behind win.

 

 

 

Stillman College

Stillman 6-2 win over Blue Mountain College sweeping series doubleheader in game two.

LHP Griff Minor (2-3) pitched a nine-inning, complete-game victory for the Tigers, allowing only two hits in the third inning and five total hits. He walked three and struck out four.

 

 

 

Florida Memorial University

In a combined Lions 7-2 effort defeated the NAIA No. 1 top ranked team, Southeastern University Fire.

William Hiciano (W, 5-3) in 7.0 innings allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 0 earned runs, and 4 strike outs.

 

 

 

Jamal Johnson, 2.0 innings gave up 3 hits and 1 run.

 

 

 

 

Dillard University

Dillard won big over the Rust College Bearcats taking two of three games. In game two the final score of 13-1.

Jackson Scherr (W, 1-1) allowed only 1 run on 5 hits over 6 innings, while fanning 6 batters at the plate.

 

 

 

Delaware State University

The Hornets won two of three games from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Sophomore Kieran Etwaru punched out eight Fairleigh Dickinson hitters over eight innings of work to help lead the Delaware State Hornets over the Knights 9-1. In addition, he gave up one run on six hits and walked two for Delaware State.

 

 

Grambling State University

In its three-game series with Prairie View A&M, Tiger Borom went 9-15 with 5 runs scored,5 RBI, 3 doubles and a homerun.

 

 

 

 

Texas Southern University

Nin Burns III, against Alcorn State in TSU’s three-game weekend series, went 6-10, scoring 7 runs with 11 RBI while collecting a double and 2 home runs.

  1. Xavier University of New Orleans has won their conference series in the last 2 weeks. These teams beat nationally ranked teams and Xavier beat them 2 out of three games. They are starting to hit their stride at the right time.
