Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball: Week Six

HBCU baseball pitching highlighted this past weekend as Black College Nines continues its season long coverage of Who’s Hot In HBCU baseball.  This edition focuses primarily on the pitchers.

Jackson State University 

The Tigers defeated Butler University in 11 innings by the score of 10-5 on Saturday, March 9. Isaiah Williams went 6.0 innings and struck out 9 Butler batters.

 

 

 

Jarvis Christian University 

Alejandro Gonzalez Moreno (W, 3-0) threw a complete game besting Louisiana Christian by the final score of 13-2 to open the three-game weekend series on Friday, March 8. Moreno, in 7.0 innings, allowed 7 hits, 2 runs, but only one was earned, striking out 9 batters of the 30 he faced.

 

 

Alabama State University  

ASU swept a doubleheader of Southern University on Saturday winning 9-1 and 13-5. 

Jack Hay went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI and Jamal Georgie homered and had three RBI to lead the Hornets offensively in game one. 

 

 

 

Luis Rodriquez (W,1-2) struck out 9 while allowing 3 runs on 2 hits to earn the game 2 win for ASU.

 

 

 

Wiley University 

Wiley had two outstanding arms over the weekend in sweeping Dillard during its scheduled three-game GCAC conference series on March 9-10. Wiley emerged victorious with a game 1 final score of 11-4, game 2 final inning walk-off 11-10 win, and the series finale game 3 four hitter 13-0 win.

Jalen Porter, in 4.2 innings recorded 7 strike outs in game 2.

 

 

 

 

Keyon Guillory (W, 1-6) allowed only 4 hits, no runs and 12 strikeouts in game 3.

 

 

 

Philander Smith University 

Diego Resendez (W, 1-0) and Jordan Stewart combined to defeat Tougaloo 4-2 in the opening series game 1 doubleheader win. Combined, Resendez and Stewart threw 7.0 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, and 6 struck out.

Paine College 

Christian Tibabijo threw a complete game of 7.0 innings, striking out 7 batters in the Lions 5-3 win over Bob Jones University in game 1 series for the victory.

 

 

Noted: 

Dillard University – In Jorge Guerra’s (L, 1-2) complete game 11-4 loss to Wiley, he recorded 9 strikeouts.
