Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball – Week Seven

They say good pitching will always beat a good hitting ball team. That was the case this past weekend, as we look at this past week’s action in our season long coverage of Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball.

 

University Maryland Eastern Shore – 1-0 shutout of Coppin State

Evon Bertone earned his first victory of the season in a complete game 1-0, four hit shutout of Coppin State. Bertone faced 22 batters, allowed 4 hits, 4 strikeouts, and forced 18 put outs.

 

 

 

Texas Southern University – No-hitter against Prairie View A&M

Michael Villanueva threw a complete game, 10-0 no-hitter versus Prairie View A&M. Villanueva struck out 13 batters allowed only one batter to reach base on a walk.

 

 

 

Alcorn State University – A gem over Mississippi Valley

Jahborus Smith, in a 10-2 win over Mississippi Valley State, threw 6.0 innings, recorded nine strikeouts and only allowing two earned runs to cross the plate.

 

 

Harris Stowe State University – No hitter

Alec Hutt, who threw the first no-hitter for Harris Stowe since the 2008 season, went 7.0 innings while striking out 7 batters.  The only base runner for the Pioneers resulted from a dropped third strike in the top of the 6th inning.
