Four student-athlete pitchers really stood out and their dominating mound presence resulted in big wins for their respective baseball programs. Those are just some of the numbers behind HBCU baseball this past weekend action as Black College Nines (BCN) continues to present some of the best performances with our season long editions of Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball.
Alabama State University – No-Hits Alcorn State
Freshman Gage Dollar threw a no-hitter defeating and sweeping Alcorn State 12-0 in SWAC Conference play Sunday. On the day Dollar threw 7.0 innings of no runs, no hits, 6 strikeouts. His only blemish was two walked batters.
Tougaloo College – Defeat Marian University 7-3
Lige Mims, Jr., threw 7.0 innings yielding 9 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned runs, no walks, with 2 strikeouts helping Tougaloo to a 7-3 win. This is Lige second appearance in (BCN) Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball.
Virginia State University – Swept doubleheader from University of Virginia at Wise
Joshua Welcher helped his team post a victory with a solid performance on the mound in routing University of Virginia at Wise 10-3. Welcher overpowered his opponent in 6.0 innings pitched, allowing 6 hits, one run scored, one earned run, three walks, and seven strikeouts. He faced 27 batters in propelling VSU to a 10-3 record thus far this season.
Edward Waters College – Defeat HBCU Baseball preseason small school No.1 Talladega
A commanding performance from the Tigers ace pitcher Jonathan Radomski helped Edward Waters to a 3-0 win over long time foe Talladega. Radomski’s three-hit shutout helped EWC take the series opener. He went 8.0 innings, faced 27 batters, walked three and struck out four.
