Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball: Week Eight

This weekend’s action is highlighted in HBCU Baseball Black College Nines “Who’s Hot” week eight.

Tougaloo College 

Tougaloo won two of three games in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) action. In the first game to open the series, Tougaloo’s late-inning rally sealed a 3-2 win over Southern University at New Orleans.

Javeon Dampier’s walk-off single secured the Bulldogs final inning rally.

 

 

 

 

RHP Caleb Carter recorded 7.0 innings with 7 strikeouts.

 

 

 

 

Alabama State University

The Hornets took two of three games from Alabama A&M over the weekend, winning the series finale 7-0.

Freshman RHP Jafet Martinez (W, 2-0) picked up the win going seven shutout innings while giving up two hits, walking none, and striking out nine.

 

 

 

North Carolina A&T State University 

The Aggies defeated the College of Charleston to open Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) conference play win the three-game series opener Saturday during the first game of a doubleheader against the Cougars winning game one 5-0.

RHP Coley Kilpatrict (W, 3-0) pitched a complete game shutout giving up only four hits, no runs and struck out four in 9.0 innings.

 

 

Virginia State University

The Trojans lost game two 1-0 to No. 6 Bluefield State during its three-game weekend series as Virginia State and Bluefield State are HBCU independent programs for baseball.

J. Hastings (L, 0-4), in a losing effort, gave up five hits, one run, none earned, striking out 10 batters.

 

 

 

Dillard University (LA) 

Dillard upset HBCU baseball “small school” No. 4 Talladega in its Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) three-game series. Dillard topped Talladega with a final score of 4-3 in game one .

RHP Jorge Guerra threw a complete game win striking out 10 batters. It’s the second straight week Guerra appeared in Who’s Hot.

 

 

 

Texas Southern University 

TSU won two of the three games versus Prairie View A&M in SWAC play.

OF Nin Burns ll, in the series opening 13-3 win went 4-for-5 with 4 runs scored and 1 run batted in. In the game three 17-3 win, he went 3-for-5 with 3 runs scored, and 6 runs batted in, including a double and a home run. 

 

 

Jackson State University 

Claimed all three games over Mississippi Valley State.

LHP Je-andrick Lourens, (W, 2-1), picked up the win working 4.2 innings allowing three hits and striking out eight.

 

 

 

Southern University

Outfielder Khyle Radcliffe, in the Jags three-game sweep of Alcorn State, has a monster series going 11-15, with 5 runs scored, 10 runs batted in, 2 doubles and a triple, while stealing 5 bases.
