Who’s Hot in HBCU Baseball

Black College Nines provides another edition of Who’s Hot in HBCU baseball with pitching gems and strikeout artists.

Coppin State University

Starter Jordan Hamburg threw a complete game shutout blanking Norfolk State 2-0. Hamburg allowed five hits, no runs while striking out 13 in a 2-0 Coppin win to clinch the three game series.

 

 

 


Xavier University of Louisiana

Blair Frederick pitched seven innings to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 10-2 victory against Texas A&M-Texarkana in the opener of a three-game Red River Athletic Conference baseball series. Frederick, in seven innings of work allowed four hits and one run, while striking out 10.

 

 

 


Paine College

In a 5-4 losing effort, Michael Rounds pitched a complete game which went into extra innings. Rounds threw 9.1 innings allowed five runs, three earned, while striking out 10.

 

 


Edward Waters University

The Tigers took two out of three games from Miles college to win the series. EWU’s Payton Shubert, in the 17-13 game one a win, was 5-for-6 at the plate, scored two runs, hit a double with four runs batted in. In the series clincher, a 16-1 win, Shubert was 1-for-4 with a grand slam and another four runs batted in.

 

 


Alabama State University

Hornets’ pitcher Osvaldo Mendez, in four innings of relief, allowed just one hit and no runs whille striking out eight in a 10-4 win over Alabama A&M.
