Who’s Hot in HBCU Baseball

A pitching gem, smoking hot bats, two relief pitching shut outs, and a three-game sweep highlight this edition of Black College Nines’ Who’s Hot in HBCU Baseball weekend action.

Rust College

The Bearcats swept its three-game series with Tougaloo College over the weekend winning game one 4-0, taking game 2 in a thrilling pitcher’s duel winning 3-2, then a 13-5 finale sweep.

In the 4-0 win, Rust relievers Jonathan Finch and D’Anfrenee Bonner combined to shut out Tougaloo while striking out nine batters. Finch in his 3.2 innings pitched, gave up two hits, no runs and recorded five strikeouts.

 

Bonner in his 4.0 innings on the hill, gave up three hits, no runs struck out four batters to record the win. 

 

 


Edward Water University

Tiger starter Alexander Davila went the distance in a complete game 8-2 win over conference foe Voorhees College. In game one of the three game series, Davila, in nine innings allowed seven hits, two runs (both earned runs), struck and out nine of the 38 batters he faced. EWU swept the three-game series.

 


Miles College

For the second week in a row, Golden Bears freshman Michael Archie had a monster weekend at the plate as Miles College swept a three game series against its SIAC Conference rival Benedict College. Miles scored 64 runs and gave up 23 in the three-game series. Archie exploded at the plate. In game one, he was 3-for-3, scored four runs, hit a double, belted a home run with five runs batted and had one stolen base. In the second game, Archie hit two home runs including a grand slam and had seven runs batted in. In the series finale he went 2-for-2, scored three runs and one run batted in.


Bethune-Cookman University

Wildcat starter Nolan Santos, in an 8 to 5 win over Alabama State, pitched six innings, gave up six hits, two earn runs striking out 9 batters helping Bethune Cookman improve to 5-1 in the SWAC conference.
