The 2022 season is in full swing. HBCU Baseball player are starting to make noise leaving a mark on their games. Black College Nines provides another edition of Who’s Hot in HBCU baseball.
The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff pitcher Andrew Duran pitched a 3-2 win over Jackson State in the opening game of their three-games series. Duran (1-3) started on the mound and went nine innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out six.
Edward Waters University pitcher Alexander Davila in 6.0 innings on the hill allowed one earned run and struck out four in a 2-1 pitching duel win over Morehouse College in a doubleheader sweep. The Tigers won game two by the score of 9-5
After taking Friday’s series opener 3-2 over Grambling State, Alabama State split a doubleheader with the Tigers on Saturday winning game one 15-9 on before dropping the nightcap 19-8. Corey King had a career day for the Hornets in the doubleheader opening game. He was 5 for 6 at the plate with eight runs batted in with a pair of home runs. King also recorded a great second game going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. For the day he batted 7 for 10.
Miles College’s Kody Long recorded his fourth win of the season, a 9-0 shutout over LeMoyne-Owens. Long threw a complete game and in 7.0 innings allowed just five hits and struck out six batters.
Talladega College pitcher Oliver Cruz recorded his first win of the season in relief in a late inning rally defeating Stillman 7-3. In 4.0 innings on the mound, the freshmen allowed just one hit while striking out five.
