The West Virginia State University baseball team placed two of its players on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s All-Atlantic Region team when the list was released on Friday afternoon. First baseman Matt Harrison and starting pitcher Ethan Lauchart were both selected to the NCBWA All-Atlantic Region First Team.
Grad student Matt Harrison earned First Team All-Atlantic Region honors after leading the Mountain East Conference in runs scored (50) and home runs (13). Additionally, he was among the top five in slugging percentage (.729), runs batted in (43), and total bases (97).
Fellow grad student Ethan Lauchart also earned First Team All-Atlantic Region honors after topping the MEC in earned run average (2.00), runners picked off (6), fewest runs allowed (20), and fewest earned runs allowed (14). Furthermore, he ranked in the top five in opposing batting average (.212), innings pitched (63.0), batters struck out (67), wins (6), and appearances (13).
After winning the conference championship, the Yellow Jackets (32-8) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament. Seeding will be determined during the selection show on Sunday, May 23rd at 10 p.m. ET.
