Another day and another award for senior Andrew Stone of West Virginia State University’s baseball team.
Stone made the NCAA Division II “players to watch” list selected by a committee of members of the American Baseball Coaches Association for Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Andrew Stone earned a spot on the Black College Nines’ HBCU Baseball Elite Team for the 2021 season. He was also named to the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Atlantic Region team and honorable mention all-conference.
The recognition should come as no surprise for Stone, who was stout at the plate in the 42 games he started last season. He hit 12 doubles, four triples, belted seven home runs, 27 runs batted in, posted a .441 on base percentage, collected 57 total bases, scored 33 runs, and was perfect in 9 of 9 stolen bases.
Fielding, Stone was outstanding with a 1.000 fielding percentage and made 75 putouts with no errors patrolling the infield.
On the mound in 13 appearances, all in relief, Andrew was 1-1 with a 1.98 earned run average in 13.2 innings and recorded four saves while striking out 14 and allowing just three earned runs in short relief.
