Black College Nines has announced its fifty-two Historically Black College and University (HBCU) preseason elite baseball players for the upcoming 2022 season. First and second team selections were made for “small schools” (made up of NCAA Division II institutions as well as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) institutions and National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) institutions).
Joshua Tayman (Nelson County, VA) will represent Virginia State in the 2022 HBCU Baseball Preseason Elites selections. Tayman is coming off his best season as a Trojan as he led the team in hits (13), doubles (4), RBI (14), on-base percentage (.442) and batting average (.361). Last season, Tayman had five-straight game where he drove in at least one run. Tayman also led the team in multi-hit games a year ago with four. From second base, Joshua Tayman had 19 putouts with seven double plays and 20 assists with no errors.
Black College Championships, LLC will be presenting the second annual Black College World Series on May 11-15, 2022, once again in conjunction with the city of Montgomery, Alabama and the Montgomery Biscuits baseball organization. The series will feature HBCU baseball teams from the NCAA Division II and teams from the NAIA to compete to crown a black college national champion among the non-NCAA Division I baseball programs. A polling committee, from the 30 HBCU “small school” programs playing NCAA Division II and NAIA baseball this season, will select the schools.
