Playing for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Derrick Mayes from Cincinnati, Ohio just finished his collegiate playing days and will now continue his baseball career joining the MLB Draft League which plays from early July until September games for a total of 50 games. Mayes will play for the Frederick Keys based in Frederick, Maryland.
During the outfielder’s three-year career, Mayes played in 127 games starting in 106, recorded 88 hits, scored 61 runs, 17 doubles, 7 home runs, and 42 rbi, to go along with 23 stolen bases.
The MLB Draft League is a six-team baseball league featuring a split-season amateur-professional format. The first half of the MLB Draft League season features draft-eligible players aiming to improve their stock ahead of the annual MLB Draft in July. The league switches to a professional format in the second half, with paid players comprising the six rosters.
