Two-Way Players in HBCU Baseball

HBCU Baseball players who pitch, hit, and field otherwise known as a two-way player. The list includes some of the most interesting players to grace the diamond. Hopefully, the season finds them at the top of the statistical category at season’s end.

HBCU Baseball Two-Way Players List:

University of Arkansas Pine Bluff 

Ben Van Maanen is a RHP/1b that will be counted on as a regular in the lineup and on the mound.

 

 

 

Bethune Cookman University

Sebastian Garrido Two way player who is a LHP and had a really good fall on the mound. Made tremendous strides this Fall and was able to command the strike zone. Garrido’s fastball velocity has gained MPH and will be counted on to pitch competitive innings for the Wildcats this upcoming season. Will also be providing depth as a LHH hitter.

 

 

Florida A&M University

Brody Poppell – SWAC Second Team catcher who hit .324, with 7 home runs in 2024.

 

 

 

Caleb Granger – RHP SWAC Pitcher of the Year who had a 9-2 record with a 2.87 ERA in 2024. 

 

 

 

Texas Southern University 

Bubba Moya LHP freshman, Moya, a two-player should serve as a quality left-handed bat as well as a go to arm out of the Tigers bullpen. He showed growth and consistency this past fall both on the mound and at the plate.

 

 

Wiley University

Ivan Del Villar, INF/RHP, formerly known as the GCAC conference home run leader and all-conference second-team first baseman.

 

 

 

Lincoln University (PA)                          

Jaden Greenidge 3B/Util/OF/RHP – Solid defender that can hit. Last season .336 8HR 37 RBI and had a .611 SLG% sits 86-88 and flashes in the low 90’s, 2-6 7.66 ERA 49 IP 46 K’s. Catch and pitch in the back end.

 

 

Xavier University of Louisiana (LA)

Alan Velez He will be the starting shortstop, and also expect him to pitch as a spot starter and in relief this season. Sophomore R-R from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, 1-year letterman.

 

 

 

Deionte Norris…6th year, IF-P, R-R from Slidell, La. Returning starter at third base and relief appearances. 3-year letterman.

 

 

 

Kentucky State University

Brad Dossett, Junior returns as an experienced two-way player for the Thorobreds. He hit .293 with 27 hits in 92 at bats along with 7 doubles, 2 home runs and 19 RBI. Dossett also threw 23 innings in 12 relief appearances with a 2-2 record and 13 strikeouts.

 

 

Keep an eye on: 

Voorhees University  – Ethan Farrell, Donovon Davis, Jonathan Smith, and Jaiden Godette.

Morris College – Freshman Jalen Scott impactful outfielders in the lineup every game.

Claflin University – Elijah Bonner Junior Transfer Lewisburg College (RHP/OF) and Duane Henderson Grad (Returning RHP/OF).

Lincoln University (PA) – Aaron Graves II OF/RHP Graves ability to patrol the OF and pitch will provide some real 2-way opportunities to impact the program. Expect some real chaos to be created with him on the base path.
