Tougaloo baseball expects to be very competitive this year. The Bulldogs 2016 baseball schedule features 25 home games, 37 games against Historically Black College and University (HBCU) programs. The Bulldogs 55 game schedule opens the season February 5 with a three game series on the road against Mississippi College in Clinton, MS.
Tougaloo then face Southeastern University for its home opener February 8-9 both doubleheaders at the Tougaloo campus home field in Tougaloo, MS.
The Bulldogs play their regular Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) 12 home and away games against conference foe Edward Waters and Talladega College. Tougaloo do not play GCAC member Voorhees College during the regular season.
Tougaloo baseball schedule includes a full slate of home and away games against HBCU baseball programs, 37 games against Miles College, Rust College, Texas College, Mississippi Valley State, Talladega, Jackson State, Miles College, Stillman College, Edward Waters, Alcorn State and LeMoyne-Owen College. Tougaloo typically plays both Jackson State and Rust in their annual baseball series.
The Bulldogs have also scheduled tough non-conference home and away games against Southeastern University, University of Mobile, William Carey and Blue Mountain College.
The Bulldogs have a good recruiting class to go along with some returning players from last season squad. According to head baseball coach Earl Sanders, he expects “the young players to be prepared to step in and play immediately”.
Sanders is entering his second season as head coach of the Bulldog baseball team for the second time having served as head coach from 2002-2007.
