Friday Games, Feb. 28:

Coppin State University 

Coppin State Reagan Rivera threw six strong innings, leading the Coppin State baseball team to a 9-6 victory over the University of Massachusetts in the series opener on Friday at Joe Cannon Stadium. Rivera allowed just three earned runs while striking out nine in 6.0 innings. Rivera struck out the side on 14 pitches in his final full inning.

 

 

North Carolina A&T State University 

Senior right-handed starter Angel Ortiz (W, 2-1) had a solid performance on the mound, leading North Carolina A&T State to an -1 victory over Marist in non-conference baseball play at War Memorial Stadium on Friday. Ortiz threw seven innings, striking out seven while only giving up two hits and no earned runs.

 

 

Southern University 

Redshirt junior starter Ranard Grace did not get the pitching win in his teams 5-4 walk off victory, but in 6.2 innings of work allowed four hits, two runs, and seven strikeouts.

 

 

 

Jackson State University 

Erick Gonzalez led Jackson State Tigers to an 11-1 eight-inning victory over Alcorn State at Smith Wills Stadium on Friday night. Gonzalez (1-0), in his third start of the season, held Alcorn State to just three hits and gave up one run while striking out nine.

 

 

Bethune-Cookman University 

Tanner Boccabello’s second win of the season came against former MEAC conference foe the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in a 7-2 win. Boccabello pitched seven strong innings and allowed only two unearned runs on three hits with a walk and a career-high nine strikeouts.

 

 

Saturday Games, March 1: 

Stillman College

The Stillman College baseball team jumped on Philander Smith early and never allowed the home team to recover as the Tigers earned the victory 5-1 Saturday afternoon. Starter Griff Minor pitched seven innings with nine strikeouts and four hits allowed.

 

 

Bethune Cookman University

Joel Core (1-0) helped the Wildcats produce their second win of a four-game series with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore during Saturday afternoon’s scheduled doubleheader at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Core pitched 6.0 innings and allowed 4 hits, 2 runs (both earned) and 9 strikeouts.

 

 

Savannah State University

Gregorio Gonzalez threw 5.0 innings with 1 hit, 2, runs, 1 earned run, striking out 9 batters in the Tiger’s 10-2 win.

 

 

 

 

Sunday Games March 2: 

Voorhees University 

Ethan Farrell secured his first win of the season with a 23-5 victory over Tougaloo College, pitching seven innings, allowing five hits and runs, and achieving a career-high nine strikeouts.
