Tigers Crush Morris To Sweep Doubleheader

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team evened its record with a doubleheader sweep over Morris College on Monday afternoon.

The Tigers won the first game 17-0 as five Benedict pitchers combined on a one-hitter. The Tigers won the second game 17-1 in a game called by the umpires after five innings due to darkness.

The Tigers (12-12) scored 17 runs in the first game on just eight hits. Morris (0-4) committed five errors, walked eight batters and hit four. Benedict stole 13 bases in the contest. The Tigers scored 10 runs in the second inning, sending 12 batters to the plate. Andre Collum had a two-run homer in the fifth inning, while Gavin Murphy had a two-run double.

The Tigers had another 10-run second inning in the second game of the doubleheader. Benedict pounded 15 hits. Andrew McCoy was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Edwin Lee Jr. was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while John Holleran was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Murphy blasted a three-run homer for the final three runs of the game. The Tigers stole 10 bases in the second game.

Benedict returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to take on USC Beaufort.
